š“Ā Ā 3' x 5'Ā Detroit RiseĀ FlagĀ with grommets and double stitched edges to reduce fraying.
āļøĀ TheĀ Design:Ā The Detroit Rise Flag was designed by Deon Mixon, a Detroit native, as his graduate thesis at Western Michigan University in 2018. He explains its design like this on the Detroit Rise Flag site:
THE BANNER OF THE STRAIT -Ā Accurately capturing the history, identity, and spirit of Detroit and because we are actually living up to our motto, the Detroit Rise truly represents our rising from struggles we endure and a path toward the better things we hope for and will attain.
- Black is for resilience
- White is for righteousness.Ā The curved form it createsĀ literally symbolizes Detroit and its motto. āDetroitā comes from the French, DĆ©troit (/deh-twah/), meaning āthe strait.ā The strait is the Detroit River; the river looks like an ascending pathway.
- Blue is for progression
- The star itself symbolizes Detroit, geographically, indicating its location in relation to the river.Ā Its 5 points represent our most successful industries from past, present, and future: the auto industry, music, art and design, life science, and high technology.
š§µĀ Our flags are durableĀ 200D polyester (most flags you'll find on the internet are cheap ~75D). In our testing, we selected 200D as the perfect flag material; anything heavier doesn't fly well and the "back" doesn't get enough ink, anything lighter feels cheap and wont last very long.
š³ļøĀ Ā Each flag is folded by hand on our dining room table and ready to be used on a flag pole, boat, hung on a wall, orĀ to proudly march with.
āĀ "What about the back side?"Ā We print all of our flags as one-sided printsĀ andĀ make sure that the back has ample bleed-through. That way the design is beautiful and visible on both sides.n
