Chicago 3D City Map Framed Shadowbox
ABOUT THIS 3D MODEL
Downtown Chicago in 3D complete with the four stars of the Chicago flag along the lakefront - Individually numbered for collectors
This 10in x 10in in 3D printed model of downtown Chicago, from Maple Street to Roosevelt Road and Desplaines Street to Navy Pier (about 2.4 miles covered) is framed in a premium open/close 12in x 12in black shadowbox with a glass front panel. Every building is true to height (from USGS laser scans), the Chicago River and Lake Michigan are cut clean through to a lake-blue backer, and the major landmarks are sculpted by hand (finally putting my college degree to use).
The flag, built from the city. Wallace Rice designed the Chicago flag and it was officially adopted in 1917. The two blue stripes stand for the lake and the branches of the Chicago river, while the four red stars stand for Fort Dearborn, the Great Chicago Fire, the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition and the 1933 Century of Progress...but you already knew all that because you watched my youtube video about it...right?
For this model, I put the four red stars in a line down Columbus Drive, from 11th Street to Pritzker Pavilion.
What's in it:
- Willis (Sears) Tower, antennas included
- The Hancock, Marina City and the Wrigley Building
- Millennium Park: Pritzker Pavilion, the BP Bridge, Crown Fountain and a tiny little Cloud Gate
- Maggie Daley Park and its skating ribbon
- Grant Park and Buckingham Fountain
- Navy Pier, the main stem of the river and both branches through downtown
- Tree canopy in every big park
Framed for the long haul. The whole city sits down inside of a premium shadowbox with a glass door and latch so it stays safe from little humans (or cats) breaking off your favorite building. That means no dusting, no worries, but you can open it up to enjoy your model whenever you want a closer look.
Who it's for. The Chicagoan who moved away, the couple who just got their first apartment in River North, the Northwestern grad heading out into the world, the lucky person who has an office in the Loop. It hangs on a wall, sits on a desk, and holds its own in a living room or a corner office. Speaking of offices, this makes a perfect corporate gift...just saying.
Made in Indianapolis. Printed and framed to order by Flags For Good in Indy (so give us a little more time than usual).

Map Nerd Accuracy
Each framed map is true to USGS surveys and scans, meaning the building heights are accurate and roads are perfect. You'll have a blast finding your house, dorm, or office building.
I try to keep models as current as I can, even hand modeling buildings that are under construction.
Opens so you can get close, closes to make sure someone else doesn't.
I found that most other 3D models (and some I own myself) are open 24/7 and therefore require dusting and protection against little humans and curious pets.
For this series I chose a premium black shadowbox frame that has a hinge and latch so you can enjoy it when you want, but feel safe knowing it's protected when you're away.
FAQ
-
Yes! The frame has a standard nail hanger that you can pop out. It also is able to be rotated so you can choose which way is "up" for your needs.
-
For these models, the city is usually a matte white and flag elements are separate colored pieces that are assembled on each model. Any water is a blue card underneath the model itself.
-
Since I am hand making these in my spare room (back to how Flags For Good began!) I decided to individually number each frame and box to add to the collectors value of the piece. Flags For Good keeps #1 and a lucky few will get the lower numbered models.
-
Sure! (For now). As these are mostly made to order, small modifications can be made upon request. Use the contact form on our site to make an inquiry.
-
I'm slowly adding new cities to the collection as I figure out a way to highlight the city landmarks as well as the city flag. If you're looking for a custom build or a city that doesn't have a good flag, use the contact form to send a request.

These are individually 3D modeled and printed out of PLA in my spare room. Then each is numbered, assembled, and framed by hand and shipped to you from Flags For Good HQ.
-
We are only allowing them to be sent via UPS (for both our sakes).
If you're in Indy, the best option is to pick it up from Flags For Good HQ to reduce the shipping and handling risk.
