Hey, Milwaukee! We'll pay for your flags!

The adoption of the "Sunrise Over The Lake" seems to be stalled by one Alderman who is concerned with the $917 it would cost to change the 20 flags the city flies over their buildings.

Well, we'll make this easy. Flags For Good will provide all 20 of the flags the city needs...for free.

In this way, Flags For Good can help assuage the honorable Alderman's concern and provide these flags free of cost, as a way to usher in this beautiful design (that has already been widely adopted by the city as evidenced by simply scrolling this instagram feed).

Milwaukee has been trying to change their city flag...basically since the current monstrosity has been officially flapping over government buildings. Design contests in 1975, 2001, and 2015 show that Milwaukeeans know their current flag...is kinda the worst. Then NAVA graded it 147th out of the 150 flags surveyed, proving it's unfitness.

With "Sunrise Over The Lake", the proof is in the pudding. The strength of this design, from a vexillolographical standpoint, is so insanely good. It's remixablilty, its diverse use cases...other city's can only DREAM of a flag redesign contest creating a result this strong. After being selected as the best design from a large contest with over 1000 entries and judged by five experts with a diverse knowledge set, it caught the cities imagination almost immediately. So in the end, it doesn't matter if the city changes it's 20 flags; this design is already woven into the city.

But, hey, if they DO want to finally put this issue to rest, give us a call

Hanging It Right: The Critical Flag Protocol Venues Miss with Vertical Flags

International flag protocol can be a minefield for sports stadiums, convention centers, and entertainment venues. To save space or line arena walls, facility managers often hang national flags vertically from the rafters. However, simply rotating a standard flags 90 degrees can result in common vexillological faux pas...one you know and few you probably don't.

The Inspiring History and Symbolism of the Alaska Flag

The flag of Alaska is celebrated globally as a masterpiece of minimalist civic design. While many state flags in the United States rely on complex seals or cluttered historical imagery, Alaska stands apart with its striking arrangement of just eight gold stars over a deep blue field. Behind this simple design lies a story of youth creativity, cultural pride, and a successful campaign for statehood.

Monica Helms designed the transgender pride flag in August 1999, starting with a conversation, a suggestion to keep it simple, and a sketch drawn from bed two weeks later. Here's the full story behind the five stripes, what each color means, and the one design detail that makes it impossible to fly wrong.
