Botswana Flag 🇧🇼
3' x 5' polyester Botswana Flag with grommets and double-stitched edges to reduce fraying.
✍️ The Design: The flag of Botswana is one of the most distinctive in Africa, intentionally designed to break away from the traditional Pan-African color schemes of its neighbors. Adopted in 1966, it is a visual representation of the nation's lifeblood and its commitment to harmony.
The vibrant light blue field symbolizes water—specifically rain—which is so precious in the arid Kalahari Desert that the national motto and the name of the currency is Pula, the Setswana word for "rain." The horizontal black stripe with white borders in the center carries a double meaning. It represents the Zebra, Botswana's national animal, whose black and white stripes reflect the racial harmony and peaceful coexistence of the people. It also signifies the diversity of the population working together in unity.
Unlike many flags that focus on revolutionary struggle, the Botswana flag is a proud tribute to peace, stability, and the natural environment. It stands as a historic symbol of a nation that has built its success on a foundation of cooperation and the life-giving power of the sky.
