Nigeria Flag 🇳🇬
3' x 5' polyester Nigeria Flag with grommets and double-stitched edges to reduce fraying.
✍️ The Design: The national flag of Nigeria is a masterclass in clean, bold symbolism, representing a nation of immense natural beauty and boundless potential. Designed in 1959 by Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi, a 23-year-old student and selected from a contest of over 3,000 entries, it was officially hoisted on October 1, 1960 to mark the birth of an independent Nigeria.
The design features three vertical bands of equal width: two vibrant green stripes flanking a central pure white band. The green represents Nigeria’s lush vegetation, its vast agricultural landscapes, and the incredible natural wealth of the land. The central white stripe stands for peace and unity, serving as a beacon of harmony for the diverse cultures and ethnic groups that make up the nation. Originally, Akinkunmi’s design included a red sun in the center, but the judges removed it, leaving the striking, minimalist "Green-White-Green" that has become an iconic symbol of African progress.
The Nigerian flag is more than just a banner; it is a proud tribute to the resilience and energy of its people. It stands as a historic symbol of a nation that serves as an economic and cultural powerhouse on the continent, representing the hope of a unified and prosperous future.
