✍️ The Design: The traditional six-stripe rainbow pride flag design popularized by artist Gilbert Baker in 1978. The rainbow flag has since stood the test of time and become the ubiquitous symbol of LGBTQ Pride the world over.

Full History & Variations of the Rainbow Pride Flag

Originally, Gilbert Baker designed the Rainbow flag with 8 Stripes, but due to the cost and availability of hot pink and teal fabric, the design was altered to 6 stripes over time.

Meet The Designer

Gilbert Baker (1951–2017) was a world-famous political activist, designer, and flag-maker best known as the creator of the Rainbow Flag , which has become the universal symbol of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) movement worldwide. After serving in the US Army and finding a home in San Francisco's post-Stonewall counterculture, Baker began using his artistic talents to create banners for pro-gay marches and protests. At the suggestion of friends and colleagues, including San Francisco supervisor Harvey Milk, he designed the eight-striped flag in 1978, specifically seeking to replace the Nazi-era pink triangle with a positive symbol of pride and liberation. Baker, who was an accomplished vexillographer, remained a tireless activist throughout his life, notably creating two record-breaking giant Rainbow Flags in 1994 and 2003, ensuring his creation's legacy of visibility and unity for the global LGBTQ community.

FAQ

Find the most frequently asked questions below.
  • We donate $1 to nonprofits and organizations supporting progressive, humanitarian, and justice-oriented causes around the world. You can select which organization you want your purchase to support in the box below the "Add To Cart" button.

If you do not select a cause, your purchase's donation will be split among all the causes listed equally!

  • Yes! All of our flags have full rich color on both sides.

  • Single-layer flags are printed on the front, so on the reverse side, any text will appear mirrored. If you want it oriented correctly on both sides, select "double-layer" options.

  • It really depends on the environment it is flying in. Direct UV exposure, wind, rain, latitude, and especially hitting things like the brick on a house will shorten your flag's life. Also, dark colors fade first and the fastest. See our care page to make your flag last the longest!

  • We want you to love your flag. If you’re not completely satisfied with your purchase, we offer a 30-day return policy. Simply contact us at orders@flagsforgood.com, and we’ll guide you through the process. Read more here

  • We are a small team with limited shelf space. If a design is popular, we start expanding what sizes we offer of that flag. Let us know if you really want to see more of this design!

  • We ship most things that don't include poles in discreet black eco-mailers. They're made from recovered ocean-bound plastic, so even our packaging does good!

Anything shipped with a flag pole, garden pole, or large numbers of flags comes in a standard cardboard box.

  • You choose! We offer standard USPS and expedited shipping options at checkout. Standard shipping typically takes 3-5 business days within the continental US, while expedited options are available for faster delivery if you choose to upgrade. We try to get orders in the mail as soon as we can. This could be as fast as the next day or take us a few days during busy times.
