Created by Navy veteran and transgender activist Monica Helms in 1999, this light blue, pink, and white striped flag has become the universal symbol for the transgender community worldwide. Why This Design Matters

Monica Helms debuted the transgender pride flag at a Phoenix Pride parade in 2000. She designed it with a specific purpose: "The pattern is such that no matter which way you fly it, it is always correct, signifying us finding correctness in our lives." The original flag is now preserved at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History — a testament to its cultural significance.

Meet The Designer

Monica Helms is a U.S. Navy veteran, transgender activist, and the creator of the transgender pride flag. Born in 1951, Helms served aboard the submarine USS Flasher during the 1970s before coming out as trans in the 1990s.
In 1999, Helms designed the now-iconic light blue, pink, and white transgender pride flag and debuted it at a Phoenix Pride parade in 2000. She chose the symmetrical design intentionally: "No matter which way you fly it, it is always correct, signifying us finding correctness in our lives."
In 2014, Helms donated the original flag to the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, where it remains on display as a symbol of transgender visibility and pride. She continues her advocacy work through speaking engagements and activism for transgender rights and inclusion.

We live in a four unit building. Some how each of the three families with kids have a transgender child! We have always been so proud of them and have been flying a cheap trans flag fir a year. Now we can show our pride in our kids with a flag we know shares our values. It’s beautiful!

I’ll start by saying that the transgender flag is gorgeous. I mean… having it in person just livens up a room.

Awesome Flag

Legit the highest quality flags I've found anywhere. Doubly so for pride flags. I'll admit, I sprung for the expensive option, but it was well worth it.

I've had one of their flags flying outside my home for over 2 years and it's faded a bit, but what flag wouldn't after a literal year flying in the sun and the rain? I've noticed very little fraying and it's still in great condition.

I highly highly recommend these flags. Sure, they're a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for, and I couldn't be happier.

  • Yes! All of our flags have full rich color on both sides.

  • Single-layer flags are printed on the front, so on the reverse side, any text will appear mirrored. If you want it oriented correctly on both sides, select "double-layer" options.

  • It really depends on the environment it is flying in. Direct UV exposure, wind, rain, latitude, and especially hitting things like the brick on a house will shorten your flag's life. Also, dark colors fade first and the fastest. See our care page to make your flag last the longest!

  • We want you to love your flag. If you’re not completely satisfied with your purchase, we offer a 30-day return policy. Simply contact us at orders@flagsforgood.com, and we’ll guide you through the process. Read more here

  • We are a small team with limited shelf space. If a design is popular, we start expanding what sizes we offer of that flag. Let us know if you really want to see more of this design!

  • We ship most things that don't include poles in discreet black eco-mailers. They're made from recovered ocean-bound plastic, so even our packaging does good!

    Anything shipped with a flag pole, garden pole, or large numbers of flags comes in a standard cardboard box.

  • You choose! We offer standard USPS and expedited shipping options at checkout. Standard shipping typically takes 3-5 business days within the continental US, while expedited options are available for faster delivery if you choose to upgrade. We try to get orders in the mail as soon as we can. This could be as fast as the next day or take us a few days during busy times.
