Ghana Flag 🇬🇭
3' x 5' polyester Ghana Flag with grommets and double-stitched edges to reduce fraying.
✍️ The Design: The flag of Ghana is a vibrant masterpiece of Pan-African identity, being the first to adopt the now-iconic red, gold, and green horizontal stripes. Designed by the renowned artist Theodosia Okoh, this flag was hoisted for the first time in 1957 to mark Ghana's historic independence from British rule.
Each color carries the weight of a nation’s journey. The top red stripe honors the blood of those who died in the struggle for independence. The middle gold stripe represents the mineral wealth of the country—a nod to the former "Gold Coast"—while the bottom green stripe symbolizes Ghana’s rich forests and natural bounty. At the very center sits the Black Star of Africa, a symbol taken from the shipping line of Marcus Garvey. This star serves as a "lodestar" for African freedom and black pride, signaling to the rest of the continent that the path to self-governance was open. Ghana's national soccer team is fittingly called the "Black Stars."
The Ghanaian flag is a proud tribute to the pioneers of African independence. It remains a historic symbol of strength and leadership, representing a nation that continues to be a beacon of democracy and cultural influence across the globe.
