āļøĀ TheĀ Design:Ā The Tulsa flag is such an awesomeĀ design that we wanted to make it available to y'all! According to the flag's site, the symbolism is as follows:Ā
TheĀ blue fieldĀ symbolizes the Arkansas River, and the many resources it has provided throughout our history and today.
TheĀ horizontal lineĀ represents the 1901 discovery of oil, the āblack goldā that brought substantial growth and commerce to this land.
TheĀ shieldĀ represents the Native American tribes forced to relocate to this region. It is also a nod to the Oklahoma state flag.
Within the shield, theĀ red circleĀ represents the blood shed and lives lost during the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre that destroyed Black Wall Street, the most prosperous African American community in the country.
TheĀ beige starĀ at the center represents Tulsaās bright future. A nod to Tulsa's Art Deco architecture, it shows that we heal from past wounds and continue to flourish as an icon of a uniquely American city.
TheĀ beige fieldĀ represents the warmth and community commonly found in Tulsa.
