The Transgender (Trans) Pride Flag is a symbol of resilience, visibility, and the ongoing fight for transgender rights.

Created by Navy veteran and transgender activist Monica Helms in 1999, this light blue, pink, and white striped flag has become the universal symbol for the transgender community worldwide. Whether you're flying it for Transgender Day of Visibility, Pride Month, or year-round, this flag represents love, acceptance, and the courage to live as authentically you!

Why This Design Matters

Monica Helms debuted the transgender pride flag at a Phoenix Pride parade in 2000. She designed it with a specific purpose: "The pattern is such that no matter which way you fly it, it is always correct, signifying us finding correctness in our lives." The original flag is now preserved at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History — a testament to its cultural significance.

The Stripes Explained

🩵 Light Blue — The traditional color for baby boys

🩷 Pink — The traditional color for baby girls

🤍 White — Those who are transitioning, non-binary, intersex, or questioning

The symmetrical design means the flag looks correct no matter which way you fly it — a powerful metaphor for finding correctness in your own life and identity.

A Note on Allyship

You don't have to be transgender to fly this flag. Allies — including parents of trans kids, supportive friends, educators, and community members — are encouraged to fly the trans pride flag to create visible safe spaces and show solidarity. In a time when trans rights are under attack, visibility matters.

Meet The Designer

Monica Helms is a U.S. Navy veteran, transgender activist, and the creator of the transgender pride flag. Born in 1951, Helms served aboard the submarine USS Flasher during the 1970s before coming out as trans in the 1990s.
In 1999, Helms designed the now-iconic light blue, pink, and white transgender pride flag and debuted it at a Phoenix Pride parade in 2000. She chose the symmetrical design intentionally: "No matter which way you fly it, it is always correct, signifying us finding correctness in our lives."
In 2014, Helms donated the original flag to the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, where it remains on display as a symbol of transgender visibility and pride. She continues her advocacy work through speaking engagements and activism for transgender rights and inclusion.

FAQ

Find the most frequently asked questions below.
  • We donate $1 to nonprofits and organizations supporting progressive, humanitarian, and justice-oriented causes around the world. You can select which organization you want your purchase to support in the box below the "Add To Cart" button.

If you do not select a cause, your purchase's donation will be split among all the causes listed equally!

  • Yes! All of our flags have full rich color on both sides.

  • Single-layer flags are printed on the front, so on the reverse side, any text will appear mirrored. If you want it oriented correctly on both sides, select "double-layer" options.

  • It really depends on the environment it is flying in. Direct UV exposure, wind, rain, latitude, and especially hitting things like the brick on a house will shorten your flag's life. Also, dark colors fade first and the fastest. See our care page to make your flag last the longest!

  • We want you to love your flag. If you’re not completely satisfied with your purchase, we offer a 30-day return policy. Simply contact us at orders@flagsforgood.com, and we’ll guide you through the process. Read more here

  • We are a small team with limited shelf space. If a design is popular, we start expanding what sizes we offer of that flag. Let us know if you really want to see more of this design!

  • We ship most things that don't include poles in discreet black eco-mailers. They're made from recovered ocean-bound plastic, so even our packaging does good!

Anything shipped with a flag pole, garden pole, or large numbers of flags comes in a standard cardboard box.

  • You choose! We offer standard USPS and expedited shipping options at checkout. Standard shipping typically takes 3-5 business days within the continental US, while expedited options are available for faster delivery if you choose to upgrade.
