✍️ The Design: The national flag of Peru is a red white red tricolor that has represented the nation since 1825. Known as the Bandera Nacional, it carries a legendary origin story that is as beautiful as the Peruvian landscape itself.
According to popular tradition, General José de San Martín (the liberator who also played a massive role in the history of the Argentina flag) was inspired by a flock of parihuanas: flamingos with fiery red wings and white chests. Seeing them take flight over the bay of Paracas in 1820, he supposedly declared, "There is the flag of liberty!" In the design, the outer red stripes symbolize the blood shed by those who fought for independence, while the central white band represents peace, purity, and justice.
One of the most unique aspects of this flag is its role in Peruvian law and culture. During Fiestas Patrias (the National Holidays celebrating independence on July 28 and 29), it is actually a legal requirement for all homes, businesses, and institutions in Peru to fly the national flag! This tradition turns entire cities into a sea of red and white, showcasing a level of national synchronized pride that is rarely seen elsewhere in the world. Failure to display the flag during these days can even result in fines from local municipalities!
While this civil flag is a clean tricolor, the state version often features the national coat of arms, highlighting the cinchona tree, the vicuña, and a cornucopia of gold.

Yes! Our single-layer flags have full rich color on both sides of the fabric.

This flag is single-layer, meaning it is printed on the front. On the reverse side, the text will appear mirrored. If you want it oriented correctly on both sides, look for our flags that have a "double-layer" option.

It really depends on the environment it is flying in. Direct UV exposure, wind, rain, latitude, and especially hitting things like the brick on a house will shorten your flag's life. Also, dark colors fade first and the fastest. See our care page to make your flag last the longest!

We ship most things that don't include poles in discreet black eco-mailers. They're made from recovered ocean-bound plastic, so even our packaging does good!
Anything shipped with a flag pole, garden pole, or large numbers of flags comes in a standard cardboard box.

You choose! We offer standard USPS and expedited shipping options at checkout. Standard shipping typically takes 3-5 business days within the continental US, while expedited options are available for faster delivery if you choose to upgrade. We try to get orders in the mail as soon as we can. This could be as fast as the next day or take us a few days during busy times.
