Guatemala Flag 🇬🇹
3' x 5' polyester Guatemala Flag with grommets and double-stitched edges to reduce fraying.
✍️ The Design: The national flag of Guatemala, often called the Azuliblanco, is a striking departure from the traditional horizontal stripes seen across much of Central America. Adopted in 1871, its vertical triband design was a deliberate choice to ensure Guatemala’s banner stood out uniquely among its neighbors.
The sky blue stripes on the hoist and fly represent the two great oceans—the Pacific and the Atlantic—that border the nation, as well as the virtues of justice, loyalty, and the clear skies above. The central white band symbolizes purity, integrity, and the nation’s firm commitment to peace. At the heart of the flag sits the National Emblem, a rich tapestry of symbolism. It features the Resplendent Quetzal, the national bird and an ancient symbol of liberty; tradition holds that this beautiful bird will choose to die rather than live in captivity. The bird perches upon a parchment scroll marking the date of independence, September 15, 1821, set against crossed rifles and swords that represent the nation's honor and its fierce resolve to defend its sovereignty. A laurel wreath encircles the design, signifying victory and glory.
This flag is a proud tribute to a land with deep Mayan roots and a storied colonial past. It stands as a historic symbol of a nation that values its freedom above all else, beautifully captured in the vibrant colors of the "Land of the Eternal Spring."
