Philippines (Filipino) Flag 🇵🇭
3' x 5' polyester Philippines Flag with grommets and double-stitched edges to reduce fraying.
✍️ The Design: Known as the Pambansang Watawat, this flag is unique in the world of vexillology for a very specific reason: it is the only national flag designed to be flown upside down to indicate a state of war.
The design is a masterclass in revolutionary symbolism, featuring a white equilateral triangle at the hoist representing liberty, equality, and fraternity. Inside the triangle sits a golden sun with eight rays, each representing one of the original provinces that rose up against Spanish colonial rule in 1896. Accompanying the sun are three five-pointed stars, which represent the three main geographical groups of the archipelago: Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao.
The two horizontal bands carry deep meaning: the royal blue stands for peace, truth, and justice, while the scarlet red symbolizes patriotism and valor. Originally conceptualized by Emilio Aguinaldo in 1898, the flag remains a powerful tribute to the resilience and fierce independence of the Filipino people. It is a bold, historic symbol of a nation that has fought bravely for its place in the sun.
