✍️ The Design: The flag of Spain, as we know it today, is a vibrant and historically rich design. Its most striking feature is the horizontal triband of red, yellow, and red, with the central yellow band being twice the width of each red band. The colors themselves are deeply symbolic; while there's no official decree, popular interpretations often link the red to the blood shed by the Spanish people throughout history, particularly in defense of their nation, and the yellow (or gold) to the country's wealth, sunshine, and the golden age of the Spanish Empire. The flag's meaning is further enriched by the presence of the Spanish coat of arms, typically placed on the hoist side of the yellow band, which incorporates emblems representing the historical kingdoms of Spain (Castile, Leon, Aragon, Navarre, and Granada), along with the Pillars of Hercules and the royal crown, all signifying the unity, sovereignty, and historical legacy of the Spanish nation.
