✍️ The Design: Venezuela’s flag is a horizontal tricolor originally designed by revolutionary Francisco de Miranda. Its three horizontal stripes of Yellow, Blue, and Red, hold deep significance for the Venezuelan people.

🟨 The top yellow stripe represents the richness of the land and its natural resources.

🟦 The blue symbolizes the Atlantic Ocean that separates the nation from Spain.

🟥 The red stands for the courage and bloodshed by the heroes who fought for independence.

⭐️ In the center of the blue stripe is an arc of seven white stars that represent the provinces that joined together to form the republic.*

*7 or 8 stars? The flag of Venezuela had 7 stars, representing the seven signatories to the Venezuelan declaration of independence, up until 2006...officially... You see, back in 1817, Simon Bolivar declared that an 8th star should be added for Guayana, but the claim to that land was disputed for decades. In 2006, Hugo Chavez officially added the 8th star to make Bolivar's decree complete, but not without controversy. Some saw (and still see) this as claiming Guyana as Venezuelan territory, and tensions between the two nations are still high, even though an international tribunal has upheld Guyana's sovereignty. Since 2006, opposition to Chavez and Maduro still fly seven star flags, even as they are harder and harder to find. That is why we at Flags For Good, who aren't big fans of strongmen and imperialism, make this seven-star flag available today.
