THE DESIGN
3' x 5' polyester Latvia Flag with two grommets, double-stitched top and bottom edges, and a triple-stitched fly edge to reduce fraying.
✍️ The Design: According to the 13th-century Livonian Rhymed Chronicle, this flag design dates all the way back to a battle around 1279, joining Denmark's Dannebrog as one of the oldest national flags still in continuous use today. Legend says the chief of a Latvian tribe was mortally wounded, and the white sheet he was wrapped in was stained red with his blood, except where his body lay. The modern design was officially standardized in 1921, suppressed during decades of Soviet occupation, and proudly restored in 1990 shortly before Latvia declared independence from the Soviet Union.
The flag features a unique 2:1:2 horizontal layout with a distinctive deep dark red shade officially known as "Latvian Red" flanking a narrow white stripe. That white middle stripe represents the truth, light, and freedom of the Latvian people, while the rich red symbolizes the blood shed by heroes fighting for the country.
The Latvian Flag is often mistaken for or confused with the Austrian flag 🇦🇹 which has a similar layout but a lighter shade of red and different stripe proportions.
🇱🇻 Days of Celebration: Latvians fly this flag on Proclamation Day of the Republic of Latvia (November 18th), Restoration of Independence Day (May 4th), and during the festive midsummer celebration of Jāņi in late June.

Yes! Our single-layer flags have full rich color on both sides of the fabric.

This flag is single-layer, meaning it is printed on the front. On the reverse side, the text will appear mirrored. If you want it oriented correctly on both sides, look for our flags that have a "double-layer" option.

It really depends on the environment it is flying in. Direct UV exposure, wind, rain, latitude, and especially hitting things like the brick on a house will shorten your flag's life. Also, dark colors fade first and the fastest. See our care page to make your flag last the longest!

We ship most things that don't include poles in discreet black eco-mailers. They're made from recovered ocean-bound plastic, so even our packaging does good!
Anything shipped with a flag pole, garden pole, or large numbers of flags comes in a standard cardboard box.

Standard shipping typically takes 3-5 business days within the continental US, while expedited options are available for faster delivery if you choose to upgrade. We try to get orders in the mail as soon as we can. This could be as fast as the next day or take us a few days during busy times.
