✍️ The Design: The national flag of South Africa is widely considered one of the most beautiful and complex designs in the world. Adopted on April 27, 1994, it was created to represent the birth of a new, democratic era following the end of apartheid. The design features a unique horizontal Y-shape, which symbolizes the convergence of diverse elements within South African society taking a single path forward into unity.
The six colors represent a "Rainbow Nation" coming together. The black, green, and yellow are taken from the banners of the African National Congress and other liberation movements. Meanwhile, the red, white, and blue reflect the colors found on the Netherlands flag and the United Kingdom flag, acknowledging the country's colonial history. It is a rare example of a flag that successfully blends multiple past legacies and the push toward the future in one design.
National Days of Celebration: The flag is the ultimate symbol of Freedom Day on April 27, which commemorates the historic first post-apartheid elections held in 1994. It is also a central feature of Heritage Day on September 24, a day when South Africans are encouraged to celebrate the diverse cultural traditions that make up their country.
The South African flag is a proud tribute to a nation of incredible biodiversity, eleven official languages, and a spirit of reconciliation. It stands as a historic symbol of hope and progress.

Yes! Our single-layer flags have full rich color on both sides of the fabric.

This flag is single-layer, meaning it is printed on the front. On the reverse side, the text will appear mirrored. If you want it oriented correctly on both sides, look for our flags that have a "double-layer" option.

It really depends on the environment it is flying in. Direct UV exposure, wind, rain, latitude, and especially hitting things like the brick on a house will shorten your flag's life. Also, dark colors fade first and the fastest. See our care page to make your flag last the longest!

We ship most things that don't include poles in discreet black eco-mailers. They're made from recovered ocean-bound plastic, so even our packaging does good!
Anything shipped with a flag pole, garden pole, or large numbers of flags comes in a standard cardboard box.

Standard shipping typically takes 3-5 business days within the continental US, while expedited options are available for faster delivery if you choose to upgrade. We try to get orders in the mail as soon as we can. This could be as fast as the next day or take us a few days during busy times.
